The House Finance and Appropriation Committee's Chairman, Olakunle Sobukanla and other members expressed dissatisfaction with the performances of personnel, particularly at the stadia in Abeokuta and Ilaro whose managements could not convince the lawmakers for the increase in their over-head and personnel cost while defending the 2021 budget estimates before the assembly on Monday.
For instance, the members kicked against the provisions for additional gardeners at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto,Abeokuta, saying the three gardeners employed are not fully engaged because of the inactivity of stadium in the past few months .
Some of the members, including the Chairman on Youth and Sports Committee, Hon.Sola Adams, Hon.Modupe Mujota (Abeokuta North Constituency) frowned at continuous Increase in the recurrent expenditure with out justifying such spending in terms of revenue generated in the fiscal year.
Also Hon(Mrs) Lateefat Ajayi (Yewa-South) berated the performance of personnel at the Gateway International Stadium, Ilaro, describing the situation at the stadium as an eyesore which requires serious attention to make vibrant and generate the desired revenue.
"The staff there are not doing anything to make the stadium vibrant",She lamented .
The house expressed its displeasure over the N6million expended by the management of the stadium on head cost and personnel as at October and mere N90,000 out of the 290,616 projected revenue for the outgoing year .
They opposed the N33.27million voted for recurrent expenditure of the stadium in the 2021 Budget which is higher than the N32million in the 2020 budget, adding that such increase is not acceptable, given the terrible condition of the facilities at the stadium which has not been enjoying public electricity supply since 2012.
The Committee Chairman asked the managements of the four stadia in Abeokuta, Ilaro, Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode to represent another proposal that is acceptable to the house.
